ITALY - Heat and energy to save the artworks

" Nobody in the world had experienced this system on artistic goods . It took a year of trials and experiments to develop the system " ...

They are mini cables (very thin cables with very low voltage that raise the temperature a few degrees ) they are normally used for cars, we tested them on the artworks, for the first time in the world and successfully in order to preserve moisture. As it’s known, due to changes of temperature and moisture condensation occurs and it deteriorates the works .

The innovative system has been sponsored by the Opera Primaziale of Pisa, the institution that has been established to oversee the construction of the monuments of Piazza dei Miracoli in Pisa , to protect, promote and enhance the artistic heritage of this historical Square. The technique has been tested on a major fresco , the Monumental Cemetery of Pisa , called "Stories of the Holy Fathers ".

"The techique used here," said Gianluca De Felice , Director of the Opera " is a unique system experienced in the world , for cultural heritage . For the first time behind the panel that holds the fresco we will install the sheets heated through thin low voltage cables , which will prevent the formation of condensation . Nobody in the world had experienced this system on artistic goods . It took a year of trials and experiments to develop the system , because it is difficult to install the curtains on large surfaces such as those of the frescoes.
