INDIA & BANGLADESH - Agreement on Renewable Energy

India continues to focus on renewable energy. This is demonstrated by the Solar Mission, the plan by which the government of New Delhi intends to leverage the capabilities of the territory in the production of solar energy.

On this level, India has made it known that it has intensified relations with Bangladesh, which has created a joint working group with the aim of promoting scientific research on sustainable energy. In this regard, the two countries agreed to promote the exchange of technical information and expertise.

Yesterday in Dhaka, the first meeting of the Second Joint Working Group was held, establishing the period of time during which the two countries will exchange learning visits. The initiative will especially benefit Bangladesh, which over the last five years has made great strides in the renewable sector, increasing from 4,900 MW in 2009 to 10,000 MW today.
